Bruin Learn - Media / Kaltura

Setting (Media Gallery)

If instructors do not want to enable students to view embedded media directly from the Media Gallery menu, they need to change the media gallery setting like below.

  1. Click the “three-bar” button at the top-right and open Edit.

  2. Uncheck Display embedded media in this Media Gallery.

Embedding Kaltura Media

Instructors can embed Kaltura Media within the Rich Content Editor (RCE) - the default editor screen in Bruin Learn. For details, please read https://humtech.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ITGIS/pages/1547960321.

English Auto-Generated Caption

In most cases, an English caption is auto-generated once instructors upload and embed media files to Kaltura. However, some exceptions (auto-generated caption failure or enabled by default) in CCLE have been reported, which might require the media’s caption to be edited manually. As caption editing is only enabled in the Kaltura Management Console (KMC, https://kmc.kaltura.com/index.php/kmcng/login) but instructors have no access to it, they should reach out to HumTech.

Note: If RITCs want to locate the media file to edit in KMC, read https://humtech.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ITGIS/pages/1631584257.

Online Poodll (Audio/Video Recording)

Online Poodll that enables students to submit their audio/video recording in CCLE is not supported in Bruin Learn. In other words, instructors cannot embed an audio/video recorder within assignments/quizzes in Bruin Learn. Instructors should guide students to upload/record media from the editor menu at their end like below.

There is another option to record audio/video and upload it, by using the Kaltura icon from the top menu. Click the icon and you will have a pop-up window to embed Kaltura Media. Click +Add New and choose Quick Recorder. Once you are done with recording, save and embed it to the editor box. The recording will also be stored in your My Gallery.

Kaltura Video App (External App in the Setting)

This external app offers integration of Kaltura’s video tools to the Bruin Learn LMS in a more interactive way. It also seems that instructors could manage and organize their media files and no longer rely on the central management team (HumTech in this context) for some advanced functions. More details here: Kaltura Video Apps for Canvas. The installation of this external app is currently not available as it requests a product key.
