Bruin Learn - Giving Access to Past Courses

If some students request access to past courses to finish an incomplete course, here are instructions.

  1. From the course setting, change the participation setting to “Course”. Then, set up the end date based on how long the instructor allows the students to access the course site. Instructors often allow access until the end of the current quarter.

  2. From the course setting, go to the Sections tab and create a new section (for example, “temporary access”).

  3. Click the new section you have created, and set up the end date for the section from the Edit Section button on the right. This should be the same date you have set up for the course participation setting in Step 1. Click “Students can only participate in the course between these dates”.

  4. Under the Sections tab, you need to set up the end date for all the other sections to prevent other students from accessing the course site. Click each section and set up the end date to some time in the past. Click “Students can only participate in the course between these dates”. If you don’t take this step, all enrolled students are able to access this past course.

  5. As the last step, go to the People menu and find the students you want to provide temporary access to. Edit their sections and add the “Temporary Access” section. Also, Add the “Temporary Access” section to the course teacher otherwise the teacher is not able to edit the gradebook as well as the course contents.
