Bruin Learn - Sub Account Level Question Banks
This documentation is meant to be a guide for how to create Question Banks on the Sub Account level in Bruin Learn. It also briefly goes over how Sub Account level Question Banks can be linked to Quizzes in Bruin Learn courses that fall under the same Sub Account.
It is possible to make a sub account Question Bank within Bruin Learn. Go to the Admin Window, click on “Sub Accounts” in the left panel, scroll, find, and click on the desired Sub Account (we tested in the RITC subaccount). Next, click on “Question Banks” in the left hand panel. Then click to add a question bank (located on the right). Name the question bank (RITC Test bank), and then click “Enter” on your keyboard. Once the question bank has been created, you can go in and add questions the same way you do when you make a new question bank within a course site on Bruin Learn.
To find the Sub Account question bank, users with admin permissions can use the admin window to find the question bank. Follow the directions provided above in option 1. Alternatively, instructors in courses within the same sub account can use the “Search Question Banks” button within a quiz in their course site. To do this they need to stay in the initial search window that pops up and scroll in the left hand portion of that window. The question bank will say the sub account name beneath it (in this case RITC). Do not select the “open all course question banks” link because that limits your search to only the question banks within your course site, not the question banks on the sub account level.
To LINK a question bank to a QUIZ GROUP in a quiz, instructors should open the edit quiz menu. Click on the questions tab and then select “add question group”. They should provide a name for the question group, indicate how many questions will be generated in the question group (1 – x where x is the number of desired questions) and also indicate how many points each question will be worth. Beneath the name of the question group is a blue link that says “Link to a Question Bank”, click on that link. This opens up a window with a list of ALL the question banks associated with this course either on the course level or on the Sub Account level. Scroll down until you see the desired Sub Account level question bank (RITC Test bank) and click on it. Lastly, click on the “Select Bank” button to finish linking the Sub Account question bank to the new question group. NOTE: once you link a question bank to the question group, you can not later go back and change that link. Instead you will have to delete the question group and then create a new question group with a link to a different question bank.
An important note! Questions changed within the sub account question bank will so up in quiz questions that are created from a question group. Changes made to questions within the sub account question bank will NOT appear in quiz questions that were added directly to a quiz but NOT as a question group.
Editing Question Banks. Teachers (and course designers) can edit questions via a question bank in a course site if the question bank was built within that course. Teachers can NOT edit sub account question banks because they do not have admin level access and so can not view the question bank directly.
Any changes made to the questions in the sub account question bank will be live to ALL the quiz question groups that are directly linked to the sub account question bank.
NOTE: Teachers can not use the quiz route method to edit questions within a sub account question bank because they do not have admin level access to Bruin Learn.
NOTE: How to get to Sub Account level Question Banks
Admins can access the sub account question bank using the admin pathway (Admin>Division of Humanities>Sub Account (RITC)>Question Banks)
They can also navigate to a sub account question bank by going through a quiz in any course site that exists underneath the same sub account which uses a sub account question bank (Sandbox RITC site>Quizzes>RITC Test Quiz and then clicking on the blue “RITC Test bank” link and entering the sub account question bank (RITC Test bank)).
