[Internal] RITC Guide to Remediating a PDF (as of April 21, 2026)

  1. Pull PDF into Luna AI using the Repair PDF tool to OCR

  2. Pull the now OCR’d PDF into Adobe and go to the “Accessibility” tab

  3. Rune the automated tagging service (this is not perfect, but its our best option until we create a better tool)

  4. If alt-text is needed: pull the PDF into an LLM and ask for it to create alt-text for each of the images in the document

  5. Go back to Adobe and add the alt-text through the “Accessibility” tab

  6. Set the default language of the document- go to File → Document Properties → Advanced → Reading Order: Language

    1. Choose the most dominant language of the document if it has multiple

  7. Save the PDF

  8. Pull the PDF back into an LLM and ask it to run an accessibility check. Note the report and provide them to the client.
