Kaltura (KMC) file location and download guide

These directions are primarily helpful if you need to located Kaltura media that is embedded into a CCLE course site as an assignment or quiz question and then add it to the same assignment or quiz question in Bruinlearn.

The following example was taken from the Italian 1 Master site quiz 3, where the RITCs were asked to correct the audio questions. When the content migration happened for these materials, the audio files for these questions did not come over, so they had to be found and manually moved from KMC.

  1. go to the Italian 1 piazza 2e master site on CCLE. Quizzes (ucla.edu)

  2. Open up Italian 1 Quiz 3 and open “Edit Quiz” to access the questions. Next, open the question bank that the random questions are being pulled from.

  3. For each question, select to edit the question, then change the question text to html view. Locate and copy the question name from the html code (example: Ital1_Quiz2_Q10) and then log into the Kaltura Management Console (KMC). Change the search options to be search by Entry Name and then past the question name (example: Ital1_Quiz2_Q10) into the KMC search bar.

  4. Click on the entry that matches (if there are two entries for some reason, select the one that has more views as this is probably the file attached to the quiz questions in CCLE).

  5. Next, to the right of the “View Analytics” button, click on the 3 horizonal dots and select “download”. Download the file as “Source”.

  6. Next, navigate to the Italian 1 Master Bruinlearn site (Quizzes (ucla.edu)) and open up Italian 1 Quiz 3.

  7. Select to edit the quiz, then select questions to view the questions.

  8. For questions 1 and 2 in this quiz, you will have to open the question bank that the quiz is pulling from.

  9. For each question in the question bank, select the edit icon (the pencil in the upper right corner of the question box).

  10. Next, click on the kaltura media symbol and then select to “add file, new media”

  11. Then click to select a file, and from your computer downloads folder, select the appropriate file (the one you downloaded for this question from KMC).

  12. Save the file upload and then click “save and embed”.

  13. Lastly, ‘update question’ for this question in the Bruinlearn question bank to save the changed you made to this question.
