How to Connect to VPN

VPN

A VPN is a secured private network connection built on top of publicly accessible infrastructure. The Campus VPN service provides an alternative to using the proxy server for remote access to the UCLA Library and other campus resources. Campus VPN access is restricted to registered students and university employees with an active staff/faculty appointment. CDH VPN is only for Humanities users and is used to remote onto humanities computers and access network resources.

General steps of how to perform task:

Installing and Running the Cisco AnyConnect VPN (Windows 7/8/10)

  1. Download the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client

    1. Virtual Private Network (VPN) Clients

  2. To run the client, click on Start, then All Programs, then Cisco, then Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

  3. To connect, enter “ssl.vpn.ucla.edu” in the text field for the VPN connection entry, then click Connect. To connect to CDH’s VPN enter the address “sslvpn.cdh.ucla.edu

  4. In the authentication prompt, type in your UCLA Logon ID and password in the appropriate fields, then click OK. For CDH’s VPN, enter your Humnet credentials.

  5. Approve your login attempt using Multi-Factor Authentication.

    1. Note: You will be required to enroll in and authorize your login attempts using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to connect to the Campus VPN. For additional information please see BOL’s help article here: Authenticating Using Multi-Factor Authentication on the Campus VPN

  6. Click Accept to complete your connection.

 

 

Installing and Running the Cisco AnyConnect VPN (Mac OS)

  1. Download the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client

    1. Virtual Private Network (VPN) Clients

    2. The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client requires Mac OS 10.8 or higher

  2. Open the VPN client by double-clicking on the Cisco AnyConnect Security Mobility Client icon in the /Applications/Cisco folder.

  3. To connect, enter “ssl.vpn.ucla.edu” in the text field for the VPN connection entry, then click Connect. To connect to CDH’s VPN enter the address “sslvpn.cdh.ucla.edu

  4. In the authentication prompt, type in your UCLA Logon ID and password in the appropriate fields, then click OK. For CDH’s VPN, enter your Humnet credentials.

  5. Approve your login attempt using Multi-Factor Authentication.

  6. Click Accept to complete your connection.

 

Dependent Services:

You will need to have a valid UCLA login ID to access UCLA’s VPN. For Humnet’s VPN you will need a valid Humnet account and be added to the security group by a member from NSG.
