Web Support FAQ

To request a UCLA domain name (example.ucla.edu), fill out parts I and III of the Domain Name Request Form (PDF) and email it to HumTech Support. The approval decision is made by campus IT Services and External Affairs. Please allow one to two weeks for a response.
For policy details, refer to the UCLA Policy 411: Registration and Use of UCLA Domain Names.
HumTech allows Wordpress, Joomla, Omeka, and Drupal to be installed on our servers. However, we only provide support for Wordpress. For the other CMS’s, site owners must manage all maintenance and development required to keep the website sustainable and secure.
As HumTech starts the development (dev) process of a website, they will set up a space that can only be accessed by people within UCLA. This dev site usually has the following structure: dev.domain.ucla.edu. For example, the dev site for spanport.ucla.edu is dev.spanport.ucla.edu.
When the website is ready to go live, we make a copy of the dev site and make it publicly available. We keep the dev website though so that HumTech can test updates and coding change, and the site’s owner can test out content changes.
