UCLA Humanities Technology (HumTech) offers two service options to clients from officially recognized academic units: Departments, Centers, or other UCLA Humanities programs. These service levels cater to the diverse needs of our clients, providing flexibility and choice in managing their online presence.
HumTech provides two distinct web hosting service levels: fully managed, and a self-managed option. The fully managed service offers extensive support with limited customization possibilities, catering to clients who prefer a more hands-off approach. In contrast, the self-managed option grants clients complete control over customization but with minimal support, making it ideal for those with technical expertise who want greater flexibility. These two services are designed to accommodate varying client needs, striking a balance between customization capabilities and support levels.
HumTech’s fully managed service provides specialized hosting solutions for low-to-moderate traffic websites, leveraging our proprietary WordPress theme on our secure and reliable servers. This offering includes three years of maintenance and support, ensuring your site is consistently up-to-date and secure. Key Features Include:

Dedicated Support: Access to expert support during regular office hours, ensuring quick resolution of issues.
Resource Management: Ensuring website resource usage stays within the parameters specified by HumTech for low-to-moderate traffic sites.

Upon the completion of the three-year service period, contracts are subject to renewal and a comprehensive re-evaluation to address evolving needs and technological advancements. We also offer support for transitioning your project to a new framework or for archiving purposes as needed.
Current departments and centers within the UCLA Humanities division, active faculty and staff, and department supported academic projects are eligible for this fully managed service.
For clients who want a more hands-on approach or require custom solutions that go beyond our fully-managed service, we recommend a self-managed hosting approach. With this option, HumTech only facilitates the setup of an Amazon Web Services (AWS) account and may provide some of the necessary tools for you to manage your own website. Any further changes, updates, or maintenance, are entirely the responsibility of the client. Key features include:

Theme Sharing: HumTech may share its proprietary theme or site templates for clients to use as a starting point for their website development.

Pricing for the Self-Managed Hosting tier will be determined based on the scope of services required, client needs, and organizational budget. HumTech will work with clients and our campus AWS representatives to develop a customized pricing plan that meets their specific requirements.
